A leading manufacturer faced significant challenges with their existing H-Frame welding systems, which were causing quality issues due to extreme backlash in the main exchange. To address this critical problem and enhance production efficiency, LazerArc was approached to develop a superior solution.

H-FRAME POSITIONING SYSTEM

OVERCOMING BACKLASH WITH PRECISION ENGINEERING: The core of the solution was the integration of the TMF3000 precision indexer, which was instrumental in eliminating the backlash issue. Designed to accommodate the customer’s robot aux axis motor, the TMF3000 not only resolved the main problem but also significantly improved the accuracy and repeatability of the main exchange positioning. The system achieved an impressive 10-15 arc seconds of positioning accuracy with repeatability in the single-digit arc seconds, thus enhancing the overall quality and consistency of the welding process.

ENHANCED PRODUCTION EFFICIENCY: One of the customer’s primary goals was to increase production speed alongside improving the quality. The TMF3000 delivered on this front as well, offering a 180-degree turn time that exceeded customer expectations and contributed to increased throughput. This efficiency boost ensured that the investment in upgrading the system was well justified by the resulting gains in production speed.

ADVANCED FEATURES FOR OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE: The H-Frame system was further enhanced with the inclusion of a trunnion or secondary axis units employing barrel cam technology. The RTF900 positioner, paired with a matching tailstock featuring a low friction four-point contact bearing, provided additional precision and stability. The design incorporated large through holes in the side of the TMF3000 main exchange housing, enabling clean and efficient routing of utilities to the trunnion positioners and customer fixtures.

To address the challenges of the mig welding environment, the system was equipped with a weld isolation kit, protecting the equipment from the harsh conditions and ensuring its longevity and reliability.
